WI Report, May 22

Hougham and Marston WI
Secretary Report for 2021/2022

Restricted by Covid my report regarding main meetings begins in July 2021.
The Committee contacted each other before this whenever possible and held June and July’s meetings in the Thorold to discuss restrictions and hygiene precautions for keeping Covid safe when meetings resumed.

Our first, informal meeting was held in the garden of Rachel Connolly on a pleasantly sunny afternoon. It was a lovely reunion with much tea and cake.

We met in the Village Hall in August and numbers started to grow. They now have reached 36. Rosemary Pike talked to us about The Magic of Stained Glass and brought some beautiful examples of her work.

September’s meeting had a very different content. Carl Denton spoke about when and why Forensic Medicine is important. Very informative and interesting including descriptive illustrations.

Harvest Supper returned in October. The Committee made casseroles and members brought other items for the meal. It was a very enjoyable meal and some guest joined us for an enjoyable evening of good food and good company.  After dinner there was a quiz with questions from the last century as our 100th birthday was in December.

In November we had a very moving talk about Rainbows Children’s Hospice from Kirsty Coxon. During this month Sybil and I also visited Marston Thorold school to talk about the purpose and history of the WI. It was also to secretly request that the children made a 100th birthday card for each of our members.
In the evening of 26th November some members visited Downtown cosmetics department for refreshments and shopping.

December was a special celebration. 100 years of Hougham and Marston W.I. A cake was made by Val Morrell and a buffet came from Watkins. We had balloons, crackers, played games and had fun.

In January we had a social evening and dinner at The Thorold. February was Resolutions Evening where members could vote for a resolution which will go forward to the main AGM in Liverpool this year. Val then demonstrated some of her lovely cake decorating on muffin/buns and a traditional Easter Simnel cake.
The WI year has gone from covid to pass the parcel and has grown in numbers.
I appreciate your support and thank you for reading the many emails I seem to send over the year!!
